Passenger-Cab Driver Fare Dispute Over Midway Drop-Off Sparks Heated Viral Video Debate
A viral video showing a woman passenger and a cab driver arguing over the fare after she decided to end her journey midway has sparked a debate on social media. The dispute has divided users over fare rules, passenger rights, and video recording during such incidents.
According to the viral post, the woman changed her travel plan during the ride and asked the cab driver to stop the vehicle before reaching the original destination. The driver responded that regardless of where she got off, she would have to pay the full fare. The woman objected, arguing that she should only be charged the amount applicable under the rules for the distance she had actually travelled. The disagreement quickly escalated into a verbal confrontation.

CAB DRIVER: It doesn’t matter where you ask me stop. I’ll charge the full fare.
WOMAN: Why should I pay the full fare when I’m getting out halfway? Do you think I’m stupid?

In the video, the woman is seen recording the cab driver on her mobile phone. She says, “Bhaiya is saying that you will make the full payment, and I will drop you halfway. Please look here and say it.” During the recording, the driver reaches toward the camera, causing the phone to shake.
The woman then questions his action, saying, “Why are you pushing like this? Why should we make the full payment when we are getting off halfway? I will pay only the amount that is applicable under the rules until the ride ends.”
Throughout the exchange, the woman repeatedly maintains that she will only pay the fare corresponding to the portion of the journey she completes. The driver, however, remains firm in demanding the full fare. During the argument, the driver, apparently in anger, tells the woman, “You are dirty people.” The remark immediately upsets her, and she asks, “What do you mean by dirty people? Why are you saying that?”
The argument continues as the woman states that she will get off at Akshardham and pay only the fare applicable up to that point. The video ends while the dispute between the two is still ongoing.
After the clip went viral, social media users expressed differing opinions on the incident. Some said that if a passenger ends a journey midway, the fare should be calculated according to the app's rules. Others supported the driver, arguing that a passenger changing plans during the trip could also result in a loss for the driver. Several users suggested that in such situations, the destination should be updated within the app so that the fare can be recalculated accordingly. Some users also questioned whether it was appropriate to record someone's video without their consent.
